This is the opening weekend of Premier League soccer. The Foxes are opening up the season against Arsenal at the Emirates. Fireworks are expected to fly in this first Premier League match of the season. This English Premier League duel will go down Friday, August 11, 2017, at 2:45 p.m. ET at Emirates Stadium. The match will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network.
Arsenal and Leicester City are two of the more offense oriented teams of the season in England. Seeing these two teams going against each other to kick off the season should make for some entertaining soccer. The Gunners have to be the favorites of this match, merely because they’re Arsenal. This is a big, strong Arsenal team in the midfield and at the back, and we just aren’t sure the speedy, finesse game that Leicester City is bringing to the table is going to play in North London on Friday night.
Southampton FC will try for Europa League berth for next season as they face Crystal Palace FC
Crystal Palace has enough points to secure a spot in the EPL next season. The Eagles did that last week with their Stoke City match. Crystal Palace does have another important game next weekend against Manchester United for their FA Cup Final match. If the Eagles win the match against Manchester United, they’ll be playing in European soccer next year. Southampton is having its’ best season ever and is looking to return to the Europa League next season. The Saints have already tied last season’s record of 60 points in the top flight, and it really should better that on the last day of the campaign against Crystal Palace with a shot at European soccer looming. In order to do that, the Saints have to finish at least seventh. Also, Manchester United would have to beat Crystal Palace next week to open up that seventh slot in the Europa League. To remove all doubt, the Saints will need a win on the last day of the year coupled with a loss by either Manchester United or West Ham. That would move them into sixth spot and would be good enough. The matchup between Southampton and Crystal Palace is scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Southampton has been magical down the stretch and it would be disappointing for the team to fail now. It’s not for sure that striker Graziano Pelle, midfielder Sadio Mane and forward Shane Long, all with 10 goals each this season in the EPL will get to the Europa League again next season. The Saints have been in great form as of late, and Top Sports Blog can’t see them loosing this match to the Eagles.
Crystal Palace won against Stoke last week to move away from being dropped. The Eagles manager Alan Pardew has admitted that his team is more concerned with the FA Cup. The Eagles at this point can only finish as high as 12th and at worst in 16th place.
Liverpool FC Will look to steal a Europa League berth for next season as they clash with Chelsea FC
This year has been disappointing to both Chelsea and Liverpool as it shows up on the Barclays Premier League table. In a couple of weeks the Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp is putting the team on the verge of the Champions League via the Europa League Final. That should not take away any luster off of this match. The Reds will need a win over Chelsea on Wednesday to still have a shot into the Europa League for next season if this year’s match against Sevilla goes south. The Reds are favorites to take the three points. Liverpool is just 7-7-3 this year at Anfield , but Chelsea is just 7-4-7 on the road. The matchup between Liverpool and Chelsea is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at Anfield. The fixture will be televised on FOX Sports 1.
Chelsea is a bit frustrated right now and has been eliminated from European play for quite some time. The team captain John Terry picked up his second red card of the season against Sunderland last weekend. Terry will be suspended for the rest of the year and probably has played his final match with the Blues. Without Terry in the Fold the squad will be very young and Top Sports Blog just can’t see the Blues being that competitive against Liverpool. Liverpool has plenty of injury woes, but it’s really the depth of the team which is being tested more than the crucial players. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp knows that the Reds are right on the verge of being a truly special Premier League club once again. Klopp has two paths to get there, and he’ll want to leave nothing to chance in the Barclays Premier League. We think this fixture is going to go the Reds way for sure at Anfield.
Arsenal was doing very well in the Premier League and was looking to be favorites on winning the title but their recent weeks in the league has gone very bad and are now 11 points off the top spot. The Gunners are still fighting for their spot in the UCL next year. Arsenal wasn’t able to score all the points while playing opposite to Sunderland on Sunday in Premier League game. Norwich City has been in horrible form as of late and are officially up against it. The Canaries will be fighting hard, but the chances of getting anything out of this match on the road at Arsenal are slim. The matchup between Arsenal and Norwich City is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. ET at Emirates Stadium. The fixture will be televised on NBC.
Norwich just aren’t finishing right now. The Canaries were beaten 3-0 at home by Sunderland, and that came on the heels of a 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace. Norwich is going to have to play the rest of this season without Timm Klose who plays as a centre back. Also, Alex Tettey, who plays as a central midfielder is out with an ankle ligament injury which will require surgery. These two men are crucial to the team’s survival. The Canaries midfielder Nathan Redmond only has five goals this season, and forward Dieumerci Mbokani really hasn’t been in good form.
Arsenal hasn’t been in great form lately either. The Gunners has drawn three of its last six matches which made them drop a spot below at fourth place in the current league table. The Gunners failed to get all three points from both Crystal Palace and Sunderland. Arsenal will try to hold on to the last Champions League spot for next season and knows that at this point a win is absolutely crucial. Top Sports Blog thinks the Gunners will get all three points that they need in this game. However Norwich will put forth a good effort and get edged out to push it closer to a return to the Championship.
Manchester United host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday
This might be the match of the week as Manchester United hosts Arsenal. Manchester United needs the win against Arsenal on Sunday. Anything less than a win and the Red Devils can kiss any chance of playing in the Champions League next year goodbye. The soccer match between Manchester United and Arsenal is scheduled for Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 9:05 a.m. at Old Trafford. The matchup will be televised on NBC Sports Network.
Manchester United hasn’t won three straight Premier League games since September. Fifth place Manchester United have only 2 victories in last 6 games. Manchester United tried their best against both Midtjylland and Shrewsbury last week, but didn’t look great in either match. The list of injuries is just too long right now for Manchester United. Without forward Wayne Mark Rooney, the offense doesn’t look good. If goalkeeper David De Gea can’t play in this one, there could be issues in this next match.
Arsenal might not be in great form, however the injury front is improving. Santiago Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere will still be out for at least a couple more weeks. Winger Mesut Ozil and striker Olivier Giroud should have a nice day up front against a beaten up Manchester United. We think the sight of a wounded Manchester United team is going to set Arsenal on the right track. This could end up being the difference on the road.
Sunderland A.F.C. vs. Manchester United F.C. – Premier League
Manchester United blew a 1-0 lead last weekend on the road and walked away with a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Morgan Schneiderlin came off the bench for the last 15 minutes and Bastian Schweinsteiger was once again absent having not recovered in time, but they are lining up in this potential XI to face Sunderland with both of them back in midfield. Sunderland came back from down 2-0 in the last quarter of an hour and celebrated swiping a point at Anfield against Liverpool. The game between Sunderland and Manchester United is scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 7:45 a.m. ET at the Stadium of Light. The match will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network.
With pressure mounting on manager Louis van Gaal, Manchester United have showed more intent to break down the opposition’s defense in recent weeks, resulting in just one loss in their last nine matches. Manchester United really should be the odds-on favorite here, knowing that Sunderland is still the second-worst team in the Premier League this year next to Aston Villa. The Red Devils let another opportunity slip for maximum points last Sunday at Stamford Bridge, though at least they can say they’ve gone three straight matches taking at least a point. If this team plays with the heart, particularly defensively that it showed against both City and Liverpool these last couple weeks, this is a winnable match. Sunderland are just 3-3-6 at home, and the should be a slim likelihood of them beating one of the top teams in the country.
